A store gift card and a network-branded prepaid gift card are different products. A Target, Amazon, or restaurant card is closed-loop and cannot be entered as Visa or Mastercard. An open-loop Visa or Mastercard gift card is submitted through the casino's card checkout, but the network logo alone does not guarantee approval.
Availability is determined by the specific card program and issuer. Visa's Canadian gift-card guidance says online use can require card activation or registration and an exact match to the registered name, address, and phone number. Some internet merchants' fraud controls may still decline the card.
The casino submits a card-not-present authorization against the prepaid balance. Online gambling is identified under card-network gambling rules, including Mastercard MCC 7995. The issuer, acquirer, casino, and local law can each prevent the transaction.
Visa and Mastercard have rules for lawful gambling merchants, but individual gift-card programs can prohibit gambling, online, foreign, recurring, cash-like, or ATM transactions. Check the agreement printed on or packaged with the exact card.
Use a gift card only when the casino cashier accepts the underlying network and the card issuer permits the transaction. Make sure the usable balance covers the full authorization and any issuer or currency charge. Split tender is merchant-specific.
Do not plan to withdraw casino winnings to a gift card. Some prepaid programs can receive merchant refunds or network credits, but payout support depends on the issuer and casino. Set up a verified bank, wallet, or other withdrawal method before depositing.
There is no universal $500 ceiling or $3–$6 activation fee. Purchase fees, denominations, daily limits, foreign-use rules, inactivity charges, and replacement fees are set by the issuing card program and disclosed in its cardholder agreement.
An approved deposit authorization can post quickly, but casino account posting is operator-specific. Refund and reversal timing is controlled by the merchant, acquirer, network, and card issuer.
A gift card is not anonymous to the payment chain. Card number, expiry, security code, merchant category, and available address-verification data can be used for authorization and fraud checks. Keep the physical card and receipt until all refunds are settled.
If a casino reverses a deposit, the issuer may credit the same card if that program accepts credits. Do not discard an empty card. Transaction disputes go through the issuer named on the back of the card; gambling losses are not automatically refundable.
Casino bonus eligibility is operator-specific. A casino may treat a prepaid or gift card differently from a standard debit card, so check both the payment-method and promotion terms before opting in.
